1946 New Orleans Mardis Gras poster from "King Rex" the "King of the Carnival" proclaiming the dates and details of the events and inviting subjects to the celebrations. The Rex Organization has hosted the Mardis Gras celebrations in New Orleans since 1872 and the royal colors of "King Rex" of purple, green, and gold have become the de facto colors of the festivities.
