Lot Essay:
The trend of disposable paper dresses emerged in the 1960s. They often served as vehicles for advertisements and promotions and were made of materials such as Kaycel and Dura-Weave. While they initially operated on the fringes of fashion, the novelty was quickly adopted by high-fashion designers. Some paper dresses were even designed for themed balls, events, and boutiques.

The "Souper Dress" paper dresses were designed as an advertising campaign as well as art. One advertisement for the dresses encouraged consumers to purchase two cans of Campbell's soup, remove the paper labels, and mail them in along with $1.00 to receive one of these iconic dresses. While not directly designed by Pop artist Andy Warhol, the Campbell's Soup Company tapped into the public knowledge of the artist's soup can works to promote their own product.
